Mrs. Horton died at her home in Frankville August 7, 1903, of dropsy, at the age of 78 years, 5 months and 20 days. Mary Sophia Smith was born in Glenville, Schenectaday County, New York, February 18,1825. She was married December 17, 1851, to James T. Horton in New York. In 1853 they moved into Wisconsin and in 1866 to Waukon, Iowa, then later to Frankville where in 1882, Mr. Horton died. She has since made her home with her stepdaughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Charley Jacobs, who, with a host of friends, are left to mourn the loss of a good mother and neighbor. At the early age of 16 she became a member of the Methodist church but for the past eight years she has been unable to attend the church she loved. During these eight years she has been a constant care to Mrs. Jacobs, but it has been a labor of love. Although she was a great sufferer at times she was always cheerful, never complaining, but trusted with simple child-like faith in her Savior, and was ready to go when the end came. The funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 8th, at the Methodist church, Rev. Walcott officiating, with burial at the cemetery by the side of her husband.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows her husband is buried in Frankville Cemetery with a note that Mary is probably buried there also.
