On Friday afternoon occurred the funeral of Mrs. Andrew Smith at the Advent church. Mrs. Smith was an old resident of Hesper and Burr Oak for about fifty years. Her maiden name was Jane Elizabeth Ackerson, born in the state of New York, March 26, 1816. Also lived in Michigan and Illinois, and was married to Wm. Harrison Turner, Oct. 16, 1844. They came to Iowa and settled on the township line between Hesper and Burr Oak, where Mr. Turner died June 11, 1859. Six children were born to them, five surviving:— James Emmett, Mrs. Emeline Jarvis, Levi H., Mrs. Elizabeth Cady, and Halleck, at whose home she died. Mrs. Turner was married to Andrew Smith Jun. 24, 1865, and died July 10, 1903.
