Telegraphic intelligence of the death of Daniel Foley, one of the old residents of Decorah, came from Burlington, Tuesday, to friends of the family. Last fall when he and Mrs. Foley left here it was with the expectation of making their home eventually with their son Dan at Alliance, Neb. At the time the latter was temporarily away from home, and as Mr. Foley had been suffering for some months from a nervous affliction, it was deemed best to take him to the hospital at Burlington where he could have every cure until he could be taken to Alliance. He grew worse and his last days were passed at the hospital. The remains were brought here yesterday and were followed to their last resting place in the Catholic cemetery by a number of old friends and acquaintances.
Mr. Foley was born in County Kerry, Ireland, May 1, 1831, and came to America when a boy, residing, until he came west, in Vermont. At McGregor he met and married Katherine Murphy. Their wedding took place in April, 1867 soon after they came to Decorah to make their home. Mr. Foley is survived by his wife and one son, two sons and a daughter having died some years ago. For many years he was forced by delicate health to lay aside active labor, but all who knew him—and his acquaintance was a large one—appreciated him as a good citizen, and a kind and considerate man both to his family and his neighbors.

Transcriber’s Note: His gravestone in St. Benedict Cemetery shows his year of birth as 1840.
