Drowning it Elkader.
Elkader, Iowa, May 11.—Delos Prouty, aged about 18 years, was drowned yesterday afternoon. In company with Sam Stein of Dubuque, and Carl Schoch of this place, he was rowing on the river and in some manner ventured too near the brink or top of the mill dam. The skiff went over the dam sideways with Prouty and Stein. Schoch saving himself from going over by jumping out. Stein was washed out at once by the current and was soon revived after having been taken out of the water. Prouty, however, was held at the bottom of the dam by the undercurrent and about forty minutes elapsed before he was taken out, when all efforts to revive him were futile.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a grave shows he was born January 27, 1888 and died May 10, 1903.
