Our community is saddened by the death of Edward A. Bjerke, which occurred at his home in this city on Monday, Fob.23, 1903 at 8 a. m. “Ed.” as he was familiarly called, was in his 21st year and had grown to young manhood in Calmar. He was a graduate of the Calmar high school, and later attended the Upper Iowa University at Fayette for a year of beneficial results. Last fall he entered the dental department of the Milwaukee Medical College but illness compelled him to return home in December, since which time he rapidly declined, a victim of consumption, In spite of years of physical weakness he was of a cheerful disposition and had a smile for everyone. He will be sadly missed by the young people with whom he was a great favorite. Though his life was brief it was not lived In vain. His memory will be cherished by his many friends, until they, too, lay down life’s burdens. The mourning sisters and brother have our sincere sympathy in their sad bereavement. The funeral will take place on Thursday afternoon at the Lutheran church.

Transcriber’s Note: Iowa Gravestone Photos show he is buried in Calmar Lutheran and that he was born November 4, 1882.
