Death of B. H. Wells,
Burgess H. Wells died at his home on Washington street Monday morning at an early hour after an illness covering some months of a complication of diseases. Mr. Wells’ birthplace was at Deer River, N. Y., eighty-one years ago last September. In 1852, at Crown Point, N. Y. he was married to Ann Rennie{sic} who was a member of the family of the late Wm. H. Baker. They continued to reside at Deer River until 1863 when they came west and settled on land between Postville and Castalia. There they continued to reside until upwards of fifteen years ago when they came to Decorah to make their home. Six children were born to them, one son dying in infancy at Deer River. The surviving children are Mrs. Warren Hoyt of Elma, Mrs. Z. S. Barnum of Lemp, Idaho, Mrs. Fred Palmerton of Leroy, Mrs. T. I. Gifford and Miss Betrice Wells of Decorah,Transcriber’s Note: His gravestone in Phelps Cemetery shows he was born in 1821 and that his wife’s maiden name was spelled Renne.
