Lansing, Joan Marie (Peyer) 1927 - 2019

Joan Marie Lansing was born March 11, 1927, a daughter of the late Frank and Mayme (Britton) Peyer. Joan was baptized in her faith at Saint Francis De Sales Church in Ossian, Iowa. Living her entire life in Ossian, Joan graduated high school from De Sales. Following her schooling Joan worked at Wallmark Drug in Ossian. She meet the love of her life (Charles Lansing) at the movie theater in Ossian, where they both worked part time, she selling concessions and he running the movie projector.

Joan was married to Charles on April 2, 1945 at Saint Francis De Sales Church, by the late Rt. Rev. Msgr. M.J. Thiltgen. Mrs. Lansing was a member of the Saint Francis De Sales Parish, The Saint Francis De Sales Rosary Society, the Catholic Daughters, the Ossian Crown Club, and a former member of the South Winneshiek Golf & Country Club.

In 1953, Chuck and Joan purchased the Standard Station in Ossian, where she did the bookkeeping for the business, 32+ years.

Joan was the recipient of the 2001 Governors Volunteer Award, awarded by the Iowa Department of Elder Affairs.

Joan loved her family, and had a very strong bond with her grandchildren. Joan enjoyed traveling with Chuck, taking many trips with Standard Oil, including traveling to California and Hawaii. They also enjoyed road trips visiting the National Parks, family in many different states, and Disney World and Disney Land. She enjoyed gardening, reading and rug hooking.

Survivors include her sons Ronald (Avis Riesgraf) Lansing, Surprise, AZ; Daniel (Rebecca) Lansing, Cambridge, MN; a daughter, Mary Kay (Thomas) Costello, Rochester MN; grandchildren, Jordan Lansing and Vanessa (Lansing) Lang, both in AZ; John Costello, Petersburg VA; Arden (Ashley) Costello, Maple Grove, MN; Sydney Costello, Lakeville, MN; Samuel Lansing and Oliva Lansing, Minneapolis, MN; sisters-in-law, Victoria Lansing, Phoenix AZ; Margaret and John Zacher (Lansing), Greendale, WI; Caroline Lansing, Billings MT; and Anita Lansing, Decorah, IA, along with many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Charles Lansing; her son, David Lansing; her brothers, Wilbur and Roland Peyer; her sister Kathleen Peyer and her in-laws.

We would like to thank the Ossian community for helping our mother when we were not able to be there. A special thank you to the staff at the Ossian Senior Hospice, for making her feel at home, loved and cared for. You are all very special people and there are no words to express our gratitude.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the Ossian Senior Hospice, 114 Fisher Ave, Ossian, IA 52161.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 am on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Ossian, Iowa with a visitation before Mass from 9-10:30 am at the church on Saturday. Rev. Robert Gross will be the Celebrant.

Burial will follow at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Cemetery, Ossian, Iowa.

Schmitz-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Ossian, Iowa is helping the family with the arrangements.
