Death of an Old Settler.
John Pickworth, one of the old and well known farmers of Springfield township, living near the “four corners” on the Calmar road, died last Friday after an illness of about three weeks, from a complication of diseases. Mr. Pickworth was one of the founders of English prairie, a neighborhood that derived its name from George Yarwood, Harry Weitman, Wm. Peek, the Vine brothers, Jos. Boland, and the deceased, because all came from England in an early day and settled near each other. Mr. Pickworth had just passed into his seventy-sixth year. He is survived by no relatives in this vicinity, as his wife died four years ago and they had no children. The deceased was an industrious, frugal man, quiet but genial and steadfast to his friends. He left a comfortable property from which we understand he had remembered those who had befriended him in times past. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon and the remains were interred in the Haugen cemetery near his home.Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he is buried in Union Prairie Cemetery and was born December 20, 1829 and died December 23, 1904.
