Wilbur E. Norton Meets Terrible Death -- on the Track- Goes from Home and in Few Moments is Found Ground to Pieces.
Charles City Intelligencer, Dec. 15.— Last Saturday evening at about 9:00 o’clock Wilbur E. Norton was killed by a train on the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul railroad, about three and one-half miles east of Charles City. He was 30 years, 8 months and 19 days of age.
The occurrence stated in the above paragraph was one of a peculiar character, as well as horrible in its details. The body of the young man was literally ground to pieces; it was cut in two diagonally about the middle, and one arm, one leg and the head being completely severed. The severed limbs were broken and the head was badly crushed. The accident, or whatever it may be called, took place about 9:00 o’clock p. m. at a point on the road directly opposite the home of the victim’s father. As soon as the discovery was made word was brought to the city and parties went out and gathered up the mangled remains, The coroner was notified and an inquest was held. After hearing the evidence of the witnesses, the jurors returned n verdict that said Wilbur E. Norton came to his death on the 9th of December, 1904, by being run over by a train on the Chicago, Milwaukee & St Paul railroad while temporarily insane.
