Emil Frana, age 89 of Decorah, IA, died on Sunday, July 14, 2019 at Accura Healthcare in Cresco, IA.

Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville. There will be a rosary at 3:30 p.m. before the visitation.

There will be a private family graveside service Thursday, July 18, 2019 by Rev. Donald Hawes at the St. Wenceslaus Cemetery

Emil William Frana was born on December 20, 1929 the son of William and Mary (Havel) Frana on the family farm. He attended St. Wenceslaus Catholic School and Winneshiek County Country School. After finishing school, Emil began farming with his father and remained farming his entire life. He married Frances Anderson on June 6, 1955 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville. Together they had four children. He also worked at Central Motors in Spillville for a short time. He enjoyed tinkering and repairing things for anyone that had something that needed to be fixed. He loved to socialize and enjoyed checking on the progress of the crops every year.

Emil is survived by his wife Frances. Children: Louann (Mark) Ptacek, Protivin, IA; Ruth (John) Huinker, Decorah, IA and Peter Frana, Decorah. Grandchildren: Charles (Tiffany) Halvorson, Louann (Joe) Rilling, Solomon (Rachel) Halvorson, Uriah (Jordan) Halvorson, Andrew (Andrea) Halvorson, Lee (Kristy) Huinker, Jacqueline (Mike) Henning, Danielle (Noah) Balik, Steven (Courtney) Huinker. Great-grandchildren: Charlie, Johannah, Isaiah, Emma, Jackson, Mason, Mara, Evie, Sloane, Shea, Tate and Aunika. Sisters-in-law: Bev Steen, Waterloo, IA, Marion Anderson, Decorah, IA and Anita Anderson, Cedar Rapids, IA. Brother-in-law: Bob Grindeland, Seattle, WA along with many nieces and nephews.

Emil was preceded in death by his son Roger in infancy. Parents: William and Mary (Havel) Frana. Brother: Cyril (Mildred) Frana. Father and mother-in-law: Gilbert and Luella (Jaastad) Anderson. Sisters and brothers-in-law: Loretta (Marc) Phillips, Irene (Gary) Groth, Clara (Leon) Williams, Almeda Grindeland, Pauline (Ken) Kuene, Gordon Anderson, Donald Anderson, Herman (Lois) Anderson, Kate (Al) Holten and Carsten Steen.
