A Pioneer Mother at Rest.
Eliza King Leach, mother of Mrs. Charles McMasters and Mrs. Edward Blakeman of Decorah and D. H. Leach and Wm. Leach of Freeport, died Wednesday last at the advanced age of 89 years, 5 months and 22 days. She was born Sept. 10, 1814, at Bridgewater, Ct., and was married in 1832 to Augustus P. Leach, In 1834 they came to Winnesheik{sp} county to reside and here the family home has remained. Mr. Leach died on Jan. 6, 1891, since which time Mrs. Leach has made her home with her sons and daughters. At an early age she became a member of the Baptist church and remained faithful to that denomination throughout her life. Besides the children above mentioned, two others, Mrs. Walter D. Greene and Mrs. A. F. Davenport of Sioux Falls survive. The funeral was held last Sun¬ay afternoon at the home of Wm .Leach in Freeport, Rev. Wn. McVettie officiating, and the remains were interred in the Phelps cemetery in this city. Thus another of the pioneer mothers has passed to her long rest.

Tramscriber’s Note: Her gravestone shows her date of death as March 6, 1904.
