Gladys Frances (Cronin) Mincks was born January 23, 1934 in Decorah, Iowa, the daughter of Frank P. and Ellen C. (Beck) Cronin. She was fourth of nine children. Gladys attended St. Benedict Catholic School.

Gladys was united in marriage to Allyn Joyce Mincks on July 8th, 1950 in her mother’s home attended by family. Gladys and Allyn resided in Decorah where they raised 10 children of their own. After her children were grown, she continued on to be a local child care provider retiring at the age of 77. She often said “Children are my life; I don’t know what I would do without them”. Gladys was a Loving mother, grandmother, aunt, and caregiver to many. She will be remembered fondly by those who were blessed to know her.

Gladys took pride in her home and in her family. She always had a well kept home and yard. She loved her hanging plants and flower pots, and enjoyed spending time sitting outside under her gazebo when the weather was nice. Nothing brightened her day more than time spent with the people she loved. She always had good things to say and was a faithful and happy person. Gladys was a joy to be around and could manage to brighten anyone’s day.

Gladys is survived by 9 children: Ellyn (James) Diederich of Cedar Falls, IA, Mary (Steven) Holkesvik of Decorah, Sandra (Steven) Reicks of Cresco, IA, Wendy (Larry) Henry of Decorah, Sherry Henry of Cresco, Terry Tran of Riceville, IA, Brenda (Randy) Henry of Oran, IA, Joseph (Lynn) Mincks of Evansdale, IA, and Robert Mincks of Decorah; one daughter-in-law, Gloria Mincks of Waterloo, IA; one brother, Robert (Ila) Cronin of Waterloo, IA; one sister, Janice Cronin of Marshalltown, IA; two sisters-in-law, Angene Cronin of Waterloo and Sally Cronin of Omaha, NE; and many nephews and nieces.

In Gladys’s hand writing we found: “10 kids

21 Grandchildren

48 Great Grandchildren

2 Great Great Grandchildren

81 kids to love- Thank you God”

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Allyn on June 4, 1992; her son Allyn F. Mincks on December 31, 2013; her siblings: Grace Vikre, Eleanor (Cronin) Moody, Pat Graham of Decorah, Joe Cronin of Waterloo, IA, and Francis Cronin of Omaha, NE; her grandson Dustyn Henry; and great grandson Robert Holkesvik.
