Marlys Roney, 66, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday evening, June 22, 2002 in Willow Gardens Care Center, Marion, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 26 at Papich-Kuba Funeral Home East, by Chaplain Steve Hindman of St. Luke's Hospice.
Burial was Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at Phelps Cemetery, Decorah.
A memorial fund has been established.
Marlys Roney was born in Springwater, Winneshiek County, and had lived in the Cedar Rapids area since moving from Decorah in 1959.
She attended Springwater Country School, Decorah East Side School, and graduated from Decorah High School in 1954.
Marlys Roney attended Hamilton Business College in Cedar Rapids, and had worked at Collins Radio Co. from 1959 to 1970.
Marlys Roney was employed in customer service at Sears Roebuck and Co. for 17 years. For the past nine years, she had been involved with Meals on Wheels through Hy-Vee.
In her younger years, she enjoyed bowling and doing latch hook.
Survivors include one son, Randall Roney of Postville; a daughter, Mechelle Roney of Marion; four grandchildren; two sisters: Evelyn (Jim) Anderson of Decorah and Audrey Smock of Coronado, Calif.
Marlys A. Roney was preceded in death by her parents, John and Pearl (Bender) Roney; two half-brothers, Ralph and James Roney and a half sister, Esther Mullinex.
