David C. Tabor was born in Addison county, Vermont, March 15, 1822, and passed on before at Hesper, Iowa, Jan. 29th, 1905. He was united in marriage with Harriet Heading, also of Addison county, Oct. 8th, 1845. She, with their two daughters, Mrs. Eunice Hall of Severance, Kansas, and Mrs. E. M. Snell of Grand Forks, N. D., and their son C. D. Tabor of Mabel, Minn., remain to feel the loneliness of a brief separation after nearly sixty years of happy union with the one who is gone. Mr. Tabor was one of a family of seven sons and two daughters, but one of whom, B. J. Tabor of Mabel remains. In 1855 Mr. and Mrs. Tabor came to Hesper and settled in “the old log house near the big spring in the north part of the village. While living there Mr. Tabor and his oldest brother Russell Tabor, were engaged in the milling business and in the management of a large farm. In the spring of 1860 the family moved onto a farm which Mr. Tabor had secured in Newburg township, Minn., a part of which is now in the village of Mabel. In the fall of 1891 Mr. and Mrs. Tabor came back to Hesper, he having purchased the beautiful home which they have since occupied. Mr. and Mrs. Tabor were “birthright” Friends and have always been active in the support of the Hesper church and in the work of the society of which the home church is a part. While an uncompromising foe of the liquor traffic and a voter of the Prohibition ticket, he did not denounce as “traitor to the cause” those who did not see it their duty to vote as he did. While an active and loyal Friend, he enjoyed the service of the Methodists, and was a frequent attendant upon the services of that church. His last sickness from catarrhal fever, was of about two weeks’ duration, and his wife and daughter, Mrs. Hall and the son were with him when he passed away. Mrs. Snell arrived from Grand Forks on the evening of the 30th, in time to attend the funeral, which will be at the home at 2 o’clock this afternoon, Rev. Harland C. Carter, of the Friends church, officiating.
