WORK OF THE REAPER.
ALLISON
Monday morning the sad intelligence was wired from Pittsburg that Miss Georgia Allison was not expected to live, and a few hours later a second telegram came announcing her death from pneumonia. The operation for appendicitis, which was performed some days before, had proven entirely successful and in spite of the fact that peritonitis had set in almost immediately, she had made satisfactory progress toward recovery. A letter written Saturday and received after her death told of her condition on that day, and at that time no cloud darkened the prospect of ultimate return to good health. Sunday pneumonia set in and the patient sank rapidly.
Miss Allison was born in Decorah, May 22, 1873, and was the younger daughter of Mrs. Charles W. Allison. Fourteen years ago she took up kindergarten work beginning her studies in Chicago. Here she spent six years, and early developed a rare capacity not only as a teacher of children, but as an instructress to other teachers. The attention of the kindergarten association of Pittsburg was called to her work and eight years ago she accepted a position in that city—one that has been marked by constant progress and increased responsibility that brought her into prominence as one of the most able exponents of kindergarten methods in educational circles. Her position as superintendent of the kindergartens of Pittsburg and Alleghany brought her into contact with many of the leading citizens of those cities and they honored her by a friendship that has grown and become more firmly cemented each year.
Not alone to the family and friends in Decorah does her death bring sadness. On Thanksgiving day she was to have entered upon a union that promised to crown her life with happiness that is looked forward to with highest anticipation by every true woman. Preparations for her wedding to Mr. G L. Bayley, one of the prominent young business men of Pittsburg, were in progress, and to him as well as those at home the sympathy of Miss Allison’s Decorah friends is extendeed{sic}.
The remains arrived here yesterday noon and were accompanied by Mr. Bayley and Mrs. Card, the latter a friend of Miss Allison. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert D. Paine met them in Chicago. The funeral will be held this afternoon at the family residence on East Main street, with interment in Phelps cemetery.Transcriber’s Note: Her gravestone shows her first name as Georgiana.
