Michael “Mike” H. Schulte, 69, of Dorchester, IA, died Friday, March 22, 2019, at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, WI. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 28th, at 11:00 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dorchester with Fr. Mark Osterhaus officiating. Burial with military graveside rites will be held in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM Wednesday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, where there will be a 3:30 pm scripture service. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
Michael Henry Schulte was born October 9, 1949, in Decorah, IA, the son of Clarence and Kathryn (Tierney) Schulte. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dorchester, attended rural country schools in the Dorchester area, and graduated from Waukon High School in 1967. Mike served in the Army Reserves. On September 28, 1968, he married Margie Stendel at St. Mary's Dorchester Catholic Church. Mike worked for Beardmore Farms, hauled canned milk for the Waukon Creamery, Cooney Construction driving truck, and Gary Lonning Construction. He also farmed in the rural Dorchester area with his brothers and worked for 46 years for North East Iowa Sales Commission.
He was a member of both St. Mary's Hanover Catholic Church and St. Mary's Dorchester Catholic Church. Mike was also a member of the Spring Grove American Legion Post 249 and the Teamsters Union. He enjoyed playing cards, pulling pull tabs, and visiting with his family and friends. Mike loved spending special times with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife Margie Schulte of Dorchester, IA; two sons: Todd "Tubby" and Travis (Jessica “Peaches” Teff), both of Dorchester; three grandchildren: Spencer, Kayden, and Tierney Schulte; two step-grandchildren: Tyler and Megan Hauser; his siblings: Lorna (John) Felten of Caledonia, MN, Mark (Kathy Ranzenberger) Schulte of Mabel, MN, and Ed (Janie) Schulte, Earl (Linda) Schulte, Connie (Don) Nagel, Lou Ann (Ed) Wikan, and Helen Schulte, all of Waukon. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Honorary Casketbearers are Sean Schulte and Cory Wikan. Casketbearers are Kent, Brian, and Brandon Schulte, Craig Nagel, Brad Felten, Tyler Hauser, Colin and Chad Wikan.
