Another Pioneer Gone.
Ole Larsen Bergan, one of the pioneer settlers of Springfield township, died on Monday last. Mr. Bergan was not one of either of the two parties that made the first settlement but he came to America in 1850, and located in Iowa and Winneshiek county early enough to get his name into the first assessment roll (for 1852.) He settled on land in the north part of Springfield, four miles south of Decorah, where he reared a family, of which two sons and two daughters survive him. He was born in Valders, Norge, and at the time of his death had passed his 80th birthday. His wife died two years ago. Our acquaintance with him began nearly forty-five years ago, and it was one of good will and respect for the entire period.Transcriber’s Note: Washington Prairie Lutheran Cemetery shows he is buried there and was born March 16, 1825 and died October 14, 1905(date doesn’t agree with the above).
