THE SILENT REAPER
John Bloomfield, one of the old residents of Decorah, died at his home on Mechanic street last Friday evening, at six o’clock, and was buried Sunday afternoon at three o’clock, the funeral being conducted at the house by Rev. M. Willett and the remains interred in the Phelps cemetery.
Mr. Bloomfield was born April 16th, 1837, in Essex county, N. Y., where he grew to manhood, and was married to Mary C. Nichols on Sept. 1, 1862. They came to Decorah to reside about forty years ago. Four children were born to them, and three of these survive—Mary and John Bloomfield who reside at home, and Mrs. Rose Vine of Calmar township. He is also survived by one brother—P. C. Bloomfield—also of Decorah.
The deceased was an industrious, hardworking man. By trade he was a carpenter, and though the accomplishment was an humble one he took particular pride in the construction of sidewalks. He was known by a large circle of acquaintances who respected him as one who tried in his daily life to do right. His family wish to thank neighbors and friends for the kindness and assistance both to the dead and the living in their hours of suffering and bereavement.
