OBITUARY.
MASON.
Diana C. Orton, only daughter of Dr. Harlow U. Orton, was born in Hamilton, Hamilton county, N. Y., July 15th, 1814. Was married to J. J. Mason in Hamilton, N. Y., Dec. 30th, 1835. Died at her home in Cresco, Iowa, Sept. 15, 1907. Age 93 years and 3 months.
Three daughters survive her. Mrs. Louise McClaskey of Decorab, Ia., Mrs. Helen Cleghorn and Miss Dana Mason of Cresco, la., and four grand children. Mr. J. J. Mason passed away May 22nd, 1895.
A brief service was held at the home conducted by Rev. Hinman, who paid ho following tribute to deceased:
The brief biographical statements which I have just read in your hearing does not begin to show the beauty and the usefulness of this life which we commemorate today. Ninety-three years of loving service demand a higher tribute than I can bring. She was a faithful wife' and a loving mother and the one who performs those two functions successfully, confers upon the world a greater benefit than that conferred by many we call great. Napoleon did not at all exaggerate the case when he said, “God could not be everywhere and so he made mothers,” for of all human functions that.of motherhood is the most divine.
After the service the body was taken to Decorah for burial in the family lot.
