Bent T. Benson, the oldest of a family of eight, was the son of Tobias and Anna Benson Raastad. He was born in Halland, Norway, April 4, 1852. He came to this country when verry{sic} young, his parents leaving Norway when the boy was but ten days old. They were among the early settlers of Orleans township, Winneshiek county, Iowa, and became prosperous farmers. The father died Dec. 2, 1880, and the youngest brother and sister also died some 20 years ago. The mother is still living and makes her home with her daughter, Mrs. O. T. Hove of Orleans twp.
Deceased had been in failing health for a number of years, but the fatal illness, pneumonia, attacked him only about a week before his death. He died Feb. 4, 1905, and was buried in the Norwegian Lutheran cemetery in Orleans twp., Feb. 8, followed to his last resting place by a large number of friends, in spite of the stormy weather. Rev. O. Otterson, pastor of the church officiated.
