C. F. and W. J. Stinson, of this city, mourn the loss of their father John Stinson, who died at his home at Freport, Winneshiek county, last Sunday, May 22, at the age of 73 years. He is survived by his wife and nine children

Transcriber’s Note: Freeport Cemetery indicates he was born December 24, 1820 which doesn’t agree with the age above stated.

OBITUARY.
John Stinson, an old and much respected citizen of Freeport, died Sunday, May 24, aged, 83 years, 4 months and 28 days. Mr. Stinson was born at New; London, New Hampshire, December 24, 1820, and was married in 1844 to Miss Lydia French of New London. His early life was spent in New England. For many yours he traveled both in the United States and Europe and spent eight years in England His first visit to Iowa was in 1856 when he took up land in Winneshiek county, but he did not come to make it his permanent home until 1875. In 1870 he was married to Mary Kary of Cincinnati and she with nine children survive him. The children are Mrs. Nellie Royce and Mrs. Phrona Wilson of Washington, D. C., George W Stinson of Philadelphia, Edward E. Stinson of Buffalo, Dr. Alice Sumpter of Estherville, Iowa, Charles F. and William J. Stinson of Cresco, Clara and Frank who reside at home with their mother. Mr. Stinson was a man of strong personality. While his early life may have lacked much of school education this deficiency was made up by intelligent reading and keen observation which made him a specially well-informed man. The funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the home of the deceased in Freeport, Rev Rett E. Olmstead of Unity church officiating, with music by the Unity church choir,
