Dwayne Hauber, 88 of Ridgeway, died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2018, at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, Wis. Mass of Christian Burial was at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Oct. 1, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville, with Father Robert Gross and Father Donald Hawes officiating. Lectors were Katie Ferrie and Ken Ferrie. Organist was Jeanette Dietzenbach. Soloist was Dan Silhacek. The St. Wenceslaus Choir also sang. Hymns were “Be Not Afraid,” “Amazing Grace,” “Eagles Wings,” “Goin Home” and “How Great Thou Art.” Eucharistic ministers were Connie Hauber, Sherry Bouska and Katie Ferrie. Offertory gift bearers were Joe and Vince Hauber. Casket bearers were Dwayne’s 12 grandsons: Anthony, Andrew and Jacob Hauber; Nicholas and Michael Hauber, Isaac and Zachary Ferrie; Blake and Alexander Andera, Jared Bergan, John and Matthew Donovan. Military rites were provided by American Legion Clarence Bily Post 467, U.S. Army. Interment was at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery, Spillville. Arrangements were handled by Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, Decorah.

Dwayne Leonard Hauber was born April 5, 1930, in Decorah to Leonard and Colletta (Tierney) Hauber. He attended country school and graduated from Ridgeway High School in 1949. Dwayne served in the U.S. Army from 1955-1957. He married Phyllis Kelley Nov. 27, 1957, at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Bluffton. Together they had six children. Dwayne was a member and also served several terms on the parish council of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville. He farmed in the Ridgeway area for over 60 years, was soil commissioner for Winneshiek County, and a member of the Clarence Bily American Legion Post 467 in Spillville.

Dwayne is survived by his wife, Phyllis; two sons, Robert (Theresa) Hauber of Elkader, and Alan (Connie) Hauber of Ridgeway; four daughters: Jeanenne (Ken) Ferrie of Heyworth, Ill., Lynette (Dale) Andera of Cresco, Elaine (Dave) Bergan of Ridgeway, Kathy (Doug) Donovan of Ridgeway; 20 grandchildren: Christina Ingham, Tony (Ketaki), Andy (Amy) and Jacob Hauber, Megan (Ben) Finley, Nick, Michael and Kelley Hauber, Isaac (Abbi), Katie, Zachary and Chelsea Ferrie, Blake (Alicia), Alisha, Alex and Sabrina Andera, Morgan and Jared Bergan, John and Matthew Donovan; nine great-grandchildren: Drake and Hannah Ingham, Cayden, Brycen and Evelyn Hauber, Carolena, Cole and Callen Ferrie, Rhett Andera; and two brothers, Joe and Vince (Patsy) Hauber of Ridgeway.

Dwayne was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Colletta (Tierney) Hauber; sister-in-law, Hattie Hauber; father and mother-in-law, Joe and Mary Kelley; brothers-in-law, Glen (Rosie) Kelley and Mark (Helen) Kelley; sister-in-law, Audrey (Alton) Rue.
