Margaret P. Schmitt
ST. LUCAS - Margaret P. Schmitt, 78, St. Lucas, died Thursday, June 6, 2002 at the New Hampton Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center, New Hampton following a long illness.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 10 at St. Luke's Catholic Church, St. Lucas with Rev. Marvin Salz as celebrant. Music was provided by Lorraine Kuennen as organist accompanying the St. Luke's Choir.
Interment was in St. Luke's Catholic Cemetery, St. Lucas with Mark Blong, Robert Blong, James Blong, Charles Blong, Dean Schmitt and Dennis Schmitt as casketbearers.
Margaret Philomenia (Blong) Schmitt was born on June 14, 1923 in Fort Atkinson, the daughter of Carl and Carolyn (Perry) Blong. She attended St. Luke's Catholic School. On Oct. 15, 1940 she married Edward Schmitt at St. Luke's Catholic Church, St. Lucas. The couple farmed all their lives near St. Lucas. Margaret enjoyed crocheting, fishing, playing cards, gardening, her flower beds and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of St. Luke's Catholic Church and the Rosary Society.
Survivors include two sons, Rev. Allan Schmitt, Dubuque and Edward (Lola), West Branch; three grandchildren and three sisters-in-law, Marcella Blong, Mason City, Marcella Schmitt, Lawler and Mary Ann Blong, Fort Atkinson.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Edward, on April 14, 2001 and three brothers, Marcus, Flavian and Charles Blong.
