Funeral services for Vivian Sanderson of Ridgeway were held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 21 at Peace Lutheran Church in Ridgeway with Rev. Philip and Ginny Olson officiating. Interment was in Sanderson Cemetery in rural Ridgeway. Pallbearers were: Terry Miester, Bruce Gunhus, Wayne Lepa, Jan Dansdill, David Sanderson, and Richard Sanderson. Schluter Balik Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Vivian, 88, died Monday, November 18 at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home in Decorah after a long illness.
Vivian Margaret Sanderson was born April 13, 1914 near Lime Springs, the daughter of Charles and Lillian (Kintz) Stockdale. She was baptized at the Methodist church in Lime Springs. Vivian was confirmed in August of 1932 by Pastor H.M. Norman of the Ridgeway United Lutheran Church. She attended the schools near Lime Springs graduating from the eighth grade.
On July 27, 1932 she married Alton Sanderson in Decorah. They farmed on the Sanderson farm near Ridgeway. They later moved to Ridgeway until Alton’s death on March 31, 1998. Vivian then became a resident of the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah.
Vivian worked at the Luther College Food Service and Wapsie Produce in Decorah.
She enjoyed needlepoint, sewing,, quilting, and dancing.
She was a member of Ridgeway Lutheran Church and then Peace Lutheran Church. She was a member of the Ruth Circle. For many years Vivian and Alton took care of the Sanderson Cemetery.
She is survived by one daughter: Shirley Meister of Riverside, CA; one son: Harlan of Eastman, WI; five grandchildren; five greatgrandchildren; four sisters: Leone Hein of Gold Bar, WA, Maxine Morrison and Gen McNiff of Austin, MN, and June Fagerlie of Cresco; and one brother: Robert of Austin, MN.
Vivian was preceded in death by her husband Alton; one daughter: Virginia Gunhus; her parents; two brothers: Reed and Charles; and one sister: Hazel Lindy.
