Funeral services for Alice Pierce of Cresco were held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 13 at First Lutheran Church in Cresco with Rev. Gary Lee officiating. Pallbearers were: Layton Olson, Lyn Huber, David Huber, Lester Butz, Clair Butz, and Steve Butz. Lindstrom Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Alice, 77, died Sunday, August 11, 2002 at the Regional Health Services of Cresco after a lengthy illness.
Alice L. Pierce was born January 8, 1925 in Ridgeway, the daughter of Frank and Marie (Vick) Butz. She graduated from Ridgeway High School and soon after began her career as a hairstylist.
On December 9, 1945 she married Roger Ratcliff. After Roger’s death she married Jim Pierce on January 18, 1968. Alice owned salons in Des Moines, Clear Lake, and Rochester before opening the Crown Beauty Salon in Cresco, which she operated for over 40 years. In 1980 she opened Universal Cosmetology College in Decorah and spent the next 10 years training young people to enter the profession she loved.
She is survived by one son: Dan; two grandchildren; and two brothers: Earl and Marion.
Alice was preceded in death by her husbands Roger and Jim; her parents; one sister: Ethel; and two brothers: Lawrence and Russell.
