Julia Pecka 100, services held
Funeral services for Julia Pecka were held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 18 at Assumption Worship Center in Cresco with Rev. Henry W. Charipar officiating. Interment was in the Bohemian National Cemetery east of Protivin with Sr. Mary Hargrafen presiding. Pallbearers were: Gary Marhoul, John Blumer, Jeff Lewison, Randy Russell, Jessica Hughes, and Steve Hughes. Honorary pallbearers were: Ron Kreitzer, Wayne Staplekamp, Ed Martinek, Johnie Vobr, Gil Pe- cinovsky, and Jerry Albertson; Conway Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Julia, 100, died Monday, July 15, 2002 at the Evans Memorial Home in Cresco where she has made her home since 1990.
Julia Pecka was born September 13, 1901 in Czechoslovakia, the daughter of John and Rosa Vlk. She attended school in the old country and came to the United States in 1923.
She married Joseph Marhoul at Gridley, KS. They lived in Kansas for a few years and in 1941, they moved back to Winneshiek County between Ridgeway and Cresco. Joseph died in 1958 and she later married Frank Pecka in 1960 at Cresco and moved back to Kansas. They lived there about three years and Frank died. Julia then returned to the Cresco area to make her home.
Julie liked to travel and had been to Hawaii, and had returned to her home country three times. She liked to bake, crochet and take care of the flowering plants in her home. She belonged to a garden club.
She is survived by one son: George Marhoul of Cresco; one step daughter: Alice Hess of Burlington, KS; 13 grandchildren; seven step grandchildren; 22 greatgrandchildren; 17 step greatgrandchildren; and numerous step great-great-grandchildren.
Julia was preceded in death by two husbands; one son: Joseph Marhoul Jr.; one daughter: Helen Pecinovsky; her parents; one step son: Frank Pecka Jr., one step daughter: Irene Hess; and two sisters from Czechoslovakia.
