SPILLVILLE - Joseph Ludwig, 90, Spillville, died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002 at the Barthell Eastern Star Nursing Home, Decorah.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. an Friday, Sept. 13 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Spillville with Rev. Donald Hawes presiding. Music was provided by Doris Thompson as organist, Ellen O'Connell as pianist and Dan Silhacek as soloist.
Interment was in St. Wenceslaus Cemetery, Spillville with Bob Sbiral, John Novak, Gerald Kuhn, Stanley Shevik, Tom Bernatz and Larry Shindelar as casket bearers.
Joseph Wenceslaus Ludwig was born on the family farm near Spillville to Albert and Anna (Shimek) Ludwig. He attended St. Wenceslaus School in Spillville and helped run the family farm. Joseph specialized in raising beef, buying range cattle and fattening them on his feedlots. He served on the REC Administration Board of Directors for many years and served two terms on the Winneshiek Extension Council. He was president of the Winneshiek County Pork Producers Association and was on the St. Wenceslaus Cemetery Board and a lifetime member of St. Wenceslaus Church, Spillville. He enjoyed traveling.
Survivors include many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers, Martin and Edward and three sisters, Celia Herold and Agnes and Viola Ludwig.
