IONIA -- Eugene G. Lensing, 69, Ionia, died Tuesday, June 4, 2002 at his home.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 7 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Ionia with Reverend John Hermann presiding.
Burial will be in the church cemetery with graveside military honors provided by the New Hampton American Legion and VFW Posts. Tom Marpe, Steve Lensing, Craig Lensing, Ron Orthaus, Richard Pursell, Brad Schmitt, Glen Gerlemann and John Harris will serve as casket bearers.
Visitation was from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 6 at the Ionia Funeral Home where there was a 4 p.m. Rosary and 7 p.m. Scripture Service.
Eugene George Lensing was born May 23, 1933 in Jackson Junction, the son of George and Catherine (Gilbert) Lensing. He graduated from Waucoma High School in 1951. After his schooling he went to work for Fred Carlson Construction until 1956 when he entered the U.S. Army and served his country until 1958. Upon returning from the service he worked at John Deere in Waterloo for two years. On June 18, 1960 he was united in marriage to Glenda Harris at St. Joseph Catholic Church in New Hampton. Following their marriage the couple resided in Nashua and later moved to Ionia. Eugene worked for Hydrotile for 28 years until the operation closed. He then went to work for Croell Redi Mix. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Ionia, where he served several terms on the Parish Council. He was a longtime 4-H Leader for the Ionia Rustlers, a member of the Chickasaw Trail Riders Saddle Club, enjoyed coon hunting, horses, camping and especially spending time with his family and telling stories.
Survivors include his wife, Glenda, Ionia; a daughter, Jeannie (Steve) Pfaffle, Kingsley; four sons, David (Deb), New Virginia, Mike (Rhonda), Ionia, Jim, St. James, MN and Larry (Lori), Ionia; seven grandchildren; two brothers, Vincent (Wilma) Lensing and Gilbert (Kathy) Lensing, all of New Hampton and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother-in-law, Elmer Marpe.
