FORT ATKINSON - Ignatius "Iggie" Henry Kriener, 79, Fort Atkinson, died Saturday, May 4, 2002 at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, MN.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 8 at St. John's Catholic Church, Fort Atkinson with Rev. John Moser presiding. Mass servers were John Driscoll, Abby Kriener, Reece and Haley Kriener. Kim Woodin and Holly Kriener were lectors. Music was provided by the St. John's Cnoir. Erin, Adam and Raelyn Kriener and Mary Lynn Driscoll were the gift bearers.
Interment was in St. John's Cemetery, Fort Atkinson with Mike Kriener, Tom Driscoll, Ryan Kriener, Steve Driscoll, Greg Woodin and David Driscoll as casketbearers.
Ignatius "Iggie" Henry Kriener was born Sept. 4, 1922, the son of Peter and Mary (Kuennen) Kriener, on the family farm near Fort Atkinson. He attended St. Luke's Catholic School in St. Lucas. He was married to Pauline Busta on Oct. 2, 1945 at St. John's Catholic Church, Fort Atkinson by Rev. Kucera. Iggie and Pauline farmed near Fort Atkinson for many years until they retired and moved to Fort Atkinson in 1987. Over the years, Iggie also sold various farm supplies and equipment. He was an avid fan of baseball and enjoyed watching his grandchildren play. He coached the Fort baseball team for 14 years and served as Baseball Commissioner for the Northeast Iowa area. He also enjoyed reading, dancing, spending time with his grandchildren, farming and watching his cattle.
Survivors include his wife, Pauline; two daughters, Joan (William) Driscoll, Lancaster, WI and Mary Kriener, Lexington, MA; four sons, Bob (Sue) Kriener, Rosenberg, TX, Ron (Jan) Kriener, Waverly, Loren (Brenda) Kriener and Jim (Danna) Kriener, Fort Atkinson; 15 grandchildren; two sisters, Anita (Godlove) Busta, Fort Atkinson and Eleanor Mracek, Protivin; six brothers, Linus Kriener, Peter (Diane) Kriener, Jerome (Madonna) Kriener, Conrad (Kathleen) Kriener and Leo (Rosemary) Kriener, all of Fort Atkinson and Herman (Greta) Kriener, Spillville; one sister-in-law, Anastasia Kriener, Fort Atkinson; numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; one grandson, Christopher Kriener; three brothers, Cyril, Francis and Lawrence Kriener and a brother-in-law, Reuben Mracek.
