Transcribed by Joy MooreLAWLER -- Helen Theresa Kout, 82, Lawler, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2002 at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City after a brief illness.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 25 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Churcn in Lawler with Rev. Marvin Salz presiding. The pall will be placed on the casket by her four children. Lectors are Melanie Kruse, Marie Pleggenkuhle and Marjorie Richards. Offertory gifts will be presented by granddaughters, Alicia Kout, Jolene Hording and Ellen Hunley. Melvin Kruse will be Eucharistic Minister.
Interment will be in church cemetery with Dean Mahlstedt, Dale Mahlstedt, Mark Kruse, Mike Kruse, Matt Kruse, Myron Kruse and Marvin Kruse as pallbearers.
Visitation was from 3-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24 at Hugeback Funeral Home in Lawler, with a 4 p.m. Rosary and a 7 p.m. Scripture Service.
Helen was born Dec. 22, 1919 on a farm near Spillville, the daughter of John and Rose (Schwade) Balik. On April 4, 1945, she married John Kout at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville. The couple lived for a short time on a farm near Lawler, later moving to their farm one mile north of Lawler. In 1963 they retired from farming and moved into Lawler, continuing in the construction business. Helen was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church and Rosary Society and was active for 20 years in the Coffee Cup Bowling League in New Hampton. She enjoyed spending time with family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, the outdoors and her flower gardens.
Survivors include her husband, John Kout; one son, John Mathias (Carol) Kout, Lawler; three daughters, Margaret (George) Nolte, Nicholasville, KY, Mary (Melvin) Kruse, Lawler, JoAnne (Darold) Mahlstedt, Clear Lake; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; her brother, Raymond (Doris) Balik, Protivin; two sisters, Dorothy Bouska, Cresco and Evelyn Ryan, Decorah; a sister-in-law, Gladys Balik, Lawler.
Preceding her in death were her parents; one brother, Richard Balik; a sister, Marie Balik.
