MINNIE R. EARL.
Daughter of Levi and Della Root, was born June 7th, 1836, at Antwerp, N. Y., married to Elliot E. Earl, Oct. 3d, 1865, at Brownsville, N. Y., and came to Orleans Twp., Winneshiek Co., Iowa, in February, 1866. Possessing a fine intellect and cultured mind, having been, educated at Ann Arbor, Mich., Mrs. Earl was well equipped for the position of teacher which she ably filled in connection with home and social duties until afflicted by the disease that made her an invalid for nearly thirty years. This cross she took up and bore with true Christian spirit and her life work of love and thoughtful care for the welfare and comfort of those around her went on until her promotion to the higher life, which occured Oct. 17, 1899. Although an invalid for so many years the summons, came suddenly, in the form of a paralytic stroke and after a struggle of only a few short hours the soul which had through all those years of affliction been sustained by the light of that “love which passeth all understanding,” was freed from its frail earthly habitation and went out to meet the one on whose promises had been resting during her pilgrimage here below.
Funeral services were held at Morgan church, Rev. Hendricks, of Ridgeway, officiating. Interment at Oak Lawn cemetery
Words would fail to depict the beauty, the sweet serenity of this pure life; but the aching hearts of the many who have been comforted, guided, and strengthened by her loving words of counsel as she reclined on her couch or invalid chair, as well as by her consistent Christian life, will bear testimony to having acquired a higher appreciation of the Divine through communion with her. And which these same hearts go out in sincerest sympathy to the lonely husband, who has in truth lost his soul’s companion, and the foster daughter whose life henceforth must be saddened by the absence of a true mother’s love, we can but commend them to this same sustaining power which was the comfort and strength of their loved one. That they too may take hold of the promises of one who has said “I will not leave you comfortless,” and may they be enabled to see the immeasurable beauty of the closing of this pure life that has been faithful in the Master’s service, and has so well earned the home which He went on before to prepare for her, is the prayer of
ONE WHO LIVED HER.
