Obituary.
Once again death claimed one of our old citizens. This time it was Adam Steinman, who lived with his daughter. Mrs. John Holger.
Mr. Steinman was born in Hessen, Darmstadt, Germany, in 1812. In 1824 he, like many others of his countrymen, left his land of birth and came to America, first settling in Pennsylvania; then he went to Ohio, where he married Miss Rebecca Klautz in 1839 who bore him two sons and three daughters. Of these one son, George, died in infancy; John, Sarah, Mary and Leah survive their father. The wife and mother also preceded him to the other world many years ago. Mr. Steinman moved from Ohio to Illinois and in 1853 came to Iowa; in Winnesheik{sic} Co., where he lived mostly till death called him. He had been ailing for several weeks and it seemed medical help could do him no good. On Oct. 17, 1899, he quietly fell asleep, from whence there is no awakening in this world. Funeral services were held in the German M. E. church, conducted by Rev. W. V. Schling, in German and English, preaching from the text, 2 Tim. 4:7-8.—Decorah Journal.

ADAM STEINMANN.
The roll call sounded and another old settler answered to his name. This time it was Adam Steinmann, father of Mrs. John Bolger in this city. Mr. Steinmann was born in Hessen, Darmstadt, Germany, in 1812, and died at the home of his daughter in Decorah, Oct. 17, 1899, after only a few weeks of suffering, apparently of old age. He finally fell asleep without a struggle.
In the year 1824 he came to America, first settling in Pennsylvania. After a few years he went to Ohio, later to Illinois, and eventually locating in Winnesheik County, in 1853, where he lived until death called him to a better home. In 1839 he was joined in marriage to Rebecca Klontz. From this marriage were born to them five children, John, Sarah, Mary, Leah and George. All survive him except George who died in infancy. His wife died many years ago. Funeral services were held in the German M. E. church, conducted by Rev W. V. Schlung, both in English and German. The remains were taken to the family burying ground about five miles north of this city.
