DECORAH -- Bernard "Bernie" Frank Oebser, 65, Decorah, died of cancer Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001 at his home.
Funeral Services were Monday, Nov. 26 at Decorah Lutheran Church, Decorah.
Burial was in Grandview Cemetery, Downsville.
Visitation was 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 25 and an hour before services at Schluter- Balik Funeral Home, Decorah.
Bernard "Bernie" Oebser was born Feb. 19, 2938 in Menomonie, WI, the son of Walter August and Agnes (Olson) Oebser. Bernik attended Twin Oaks Country School near Downsville, WI and graduated from Menomonie High School in 1952. He attended Luther College from 1952-57 and entered the Luther Seminary from 1957-61 in St.
Paul, MN. He married Genevieve Moe On Aug. 25, 1957 in the Colfax Lutheran Church, Colfax, WI. After Gen's death in 1994, he married Beverly Gross on Feb. 24, 1996 at St. James Lutheran Church, Mason City. He served Trinity Lutheran Church in Mason City from 1961-64, Kanawha Lutheran Church, Kanawha from 1964-71, Trinity Lutheran Church, New Hampton from 1971-94 and St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Lime Springs from 1994-98. He then retired and served as an Interim Pastor for many churches in the northeast Iowa area. Bernie enjoyed collecting jokes, telling stories, asking questions, being around people and he loved to laugh. One of his many quotes was: "Birth and death are inevitable, so why not just enjoy the Interval."
Survivors include his wife, Beverly, who died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001; three daughters, Jana Klosterbuer, Decorah, Elizabeth Helstrom and Emma, both of Waconia, MN; a stepson, David Gross, Sioux City; seven grandchildren; a brother, Marlin, Downsville, Wl and a sister, Janis Johnson, Germantown, WI.
Preceding him in death was his parents and his first wife, Genevieve.
