ADAMS -- A Mass of Christian burial will be offered for Ralph A. Hertges at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Adams with the Rev. Gregory Leif officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Hertges, 74, of Adams, a retired school custodian and bus driver, died Tuesday night (Dec. 12, 1995) of injuries suffered in a two-vehicle accident near Spring Grove.
He was born April 12, 1921, in Ossian, Iowa, and married Pauline Williams on Aug. 31, 1946, at St. Joseph's Church in Waterloo, Iowa. They lived in Waterloo until 1952 and then in the Rose Creek area until moving to Adams in 1967. Before his retirement, Mr. Hertges was a custodian at Sacred Heart School and a school bus driver. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and walking.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Marilyn (Mrs. Alan) Abbe of Alden, Minn., Susan Hertges of Albert Lea and Mary Jo (Mrs. Steven) Nagele of Adams; a son, Gene of Albert Lea; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; five sisters, Mayme Klee and Hilda Sundry, both of Rochester, Florence (Mrs. Clarence) Hawkins of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Gladys Wolfe of Decorah, Iowa, and Dorothy (Mrs. Russell) Burnes of Cresco, Iowa; and three brothers, Clarence of Cresco, Leonard of Decorah and Donald of Ossian. Two bothers and a sister preceded him in death.
Friends may call from 3:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Adams Funeral Home where the rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. Friday and there will be a prayer service at 7 p.m.
