Transcribed by Joy MooreST. LUCAS - Dion C. Hegseth, 23, Decorah, died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2001 as a result of an automobile accident.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31 at St. John Lutheran Church, Stapleton, rural Waucoma, with Pastor Milton D. Johnson presiding.
Interment was in the Waucoma Cemetery with John Foreman Jr., Kevin Boyer, Kerry C. Kleve, Junior Boyer, Craig Kueflner and Matt Corlett as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Christopher Hegseth, Nick Schissel, Duane Boyer, Samantha Kriener, Jerry Steinlage, Jade Miner, Jeremy Kriener and Jenna Miner.
Dion Charles Hegseth, son of Charles and Shirley (Miner) Hegseth, was born March 24, 1978 at West Union. He was baptized May 14, 1978 at Grace Lutheran Church in Fayette and later confirmed his faith on April 21, 1992 at St. John Lutheran Church, Stapleton, rural Waucoma. Dion graduated from Turkey Valley High School in 1996, worked in Tennessee for a year, moved back home and lived with his parents and worked for Kuennen Sales and Service in Festina for six months. He then began employment with Iowa Rotocast Inc. at Decorah and had been living in Decorah for about six months. He en-joyed racing, the Raiders Football team, playing pool, softball league, Playstation II, bicycling, karaoke, the Iowa Hawkeyes and being with friends.
Surviving are his parents, Charles and Shirley Hegseth, St. Lucas; one brother, Aaron Mechtel, Sioux City; paternal grandmother, Marlys Hegseth, Spring Grove, MN.
Preceding him in death were his paternal grandfather, Morris Hegseth and maternal grandparents, Warren (Jack) and Mildred Miner.
Burnham-Wood Funeral Home, West Union, was in charge of arrangements.
