Hartley Louis Latterman, age 96, died Friday, December 1, 2017 at the Bickford Senior Living Center in Iowa City, Iowa. Services will be held on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at the Parrott and Wood Chapel of Memories with burial in the Garden of Memories Cemetery where he will receive military honors.

Hartley was born on February 21, 1921 in Frankville Township, Winneshiek County, Iowa to Albert and Elsie (Rolfs) Latterman. He was raised by his maternal aunt and uncle, Rosena (Rolfs) and Marvin Winters in Waukon, Iowa. Hartley served in the United States Army during World War II with the 78th Infantry Division. After the war, Hartley moved to Waterloo, Iowa. He married Virginia Edgetion on May 9, 1953. Hartley worked for Rath Packing Plant for 31 years before retiring in 1979. After the death of his wife Virginia, Hartley shared many years with longtime friend Harriet Boike and her family. In Hartley's 96 years he touched a lot of lives. He gave his time, talents, and care to many people. Hartley was never late for anyone or anything. He will be truly missed.

Hartley Latterman is survived by his step-children Ramona Walls of Oxford, Iowa and Ronald Heller of Arizona; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Elsie Latterman, his aunt and uncle Rosena and Marvin Winters; his wife Virginia and special friend Harriet Boike; two brothers Leslie and Vernon and two sisters, Mildred Hermanson and Maxine who died in infancy; a son-in-law Elmer Walls, and great-grandson Casey Walls.

NOTE BY TRANSCRIBER: Some records show Hartley's surname of Latterman spelled as "Laterman". Also his wife's surname has also appeared as Edgerton.
