Funeral services for Elizabeth Schroeder were held Monday, Nov. 14, 1983 at 10:30 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church, Castalia. The Rev. Howard W. Wolfgram officiated. Burial was in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Castalia.
Elizabeth Ann Schroeder, daughter of Charles and Anna (Althouse) Schweinefus, was born June 20, 1896 in Dover Township, Fayette County. She died Nov. 12, 1983 at the Good Samaritan Center, Postville.
She was baptized Sept. 15, 1896 at Eldora and confirmed there May 20, 1910. She attended the rural schools in the area.
She was married to Arthur W. Schroeder Dec. 21, 1920 at the home of her parents in Castalia. To this union two children were born. They farmed south of Castalia until 1935 when they moved to a farm on the west edge of Castalia. In 1955 they moved into town.
Elizabeth had been a resident of the Good Samaritan Center in Postville since the death of her husband in 1974.
She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia and the ALCW.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a granddaughter, Lori Jo Szabo; a great-grandson, Brent Richard Schroeder; four brothers, Leo, Frank, Otto and one in infancy; and three sisters, Mabel Wirkler, Lena Everman and Francis Reinhardt.
Surviving are a son, Kenneth and a daughter, Betty (Mrs. William Szabo), both of Castalia; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four sisters, Tillie Meyer and Mrs. Millard (Elsie) Sampson, both of Castalia, Viola Kohls, Clermont and Mrs. Donald (Esther) Stoessel of West Union.
