Esther Rose Schroeder

Funeral services for Esther Schroeder, 81, were held Saturday, March 30, 1991, at 11:00 a.m. in the Zion Lutheran Church at Castalia. The Rev. H. W. Wolfgram officiated. The organist was Marlys Hager. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Pleasant View Cemetery.

Esther Rose (Mundt) Schroeder, was born April 21, 1909, five miles northwest of Castalia in Bloomfield Township, Winneshiek County, near Castalia, Iowa. She died Wednesday, March 27, 1991, in the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah, Iowa.

She attended the District 8 school in Bloomfield Township. On February 12, 1930 she married Clem Schroeder at the Herman Schroeder farm east of Ossian. They had two daughters. They farmed east of Ossian for 13 years.

Esther worked as a midwife from 1943 to 1972 and then at the Anderson Rest Home in Decorah from 1972 to 1980. From 1980 until 1982, she was employed at Ronnie's Cafe in Decorah. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, the Women of the ELCA, serving as vice-president and she also served on the Stewardship Committee. She was a member of the Tuesday Club of Castalia.

She is preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother, a sister, Verla Mundt, a grandson, Ronnie Dull, twin granddaughters and a great-grandson, David Dull.

Surviving are two daughters, Gwendolynn and her husband Herman Thompson, Sidney, OH and Karen and her husband, Kenneth Ney, Ossian, IA; 8 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and a nephew and his family.

Casket bearers were Dale Dull, Kraig Ney, Kendall Ney, Duane Brandt, Terry Gossling and Roger Jenkins.

Honorary casket Bearers (sic) were Todd Mundt, Michael Elsbernd and Joel Hageman.
