Rites Held For Castalia Mayor

Funeral Services (sic) were held Friday, September 29 at 1:30 p.m. from Zion Lutheran Church, Castalia, for Herbert F. Schroeder, who died September 27 at the Lutheran Hospital, LaCrosse, Wisconsin, where he had been a patient less than a day. The Rev. Arthur J. Tolo officiated. Schutte's was in charge of arrangements.

Herbert (Hub) Frederick Schroeder was born July 30, 1906, near Castalia, the son of John and Martha Brandt Schroeder.

June 22, 1927, Mr. Schroeder was married to Anna Meyer at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Eldorado. He attended public school near Castalia and worked on the home farm. For a number of years the Schroeders farmed south of Castalia, moving into Castalia in 1969.

Mr. Schroeder was baptized September 30, 1906, at Castalia Zion Lutheran church, the same year the church was organized. He remained a lifelong member. He was confirmed March 28, 1920.

Mr. Schroeder had held a number of positions of public trust in the church and community and at the time of his death was mayor of Castalia.

He is survived by his wife and a son Eugene of Castalia; three sisters, Mrs. Emma Koenig, Castalia, and Mrs. Clara Arndt and Mrs. Selma Nuehring of Mason City. There are three grandchildren, Doyle, Eunice and Lori Schroeder, several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Schroeder was preceded in death by three sisters, Ruth (Mrs. Claude Weaver), Elsie (Mrs. Walter Schultz) and Florence (Mrs. Edward Preuss) and a half brother, Louis Brandt.

Interment was in Pleasant View Cemetery.
