One of the oldest settlers in the county answered the summons of the grim reaper Death last Monday night. We refer to Mr. Theo. Butz. Mr. Butz came to this place from Indiana in the early sixties and has has{sic} always lived on the same farm which he held at the time of his death. He was a native of Germany leaving that country when a young man to seek his fortunes in the then new west, he came from Indiana in company with or about the same time as H. W. Klemme and Theo. Kratz. He has always been one of the foremost citizens of our town. He leaves a large family most of whom reside in the immediate vicinity. He was about 80 years old at the time of his death and had always been remarkably well and strong, sickness being nearly an entire stranger to him. Last Wednesday he received a fall breaking one of his ribs but was getting along nicely and was out doors Saturday. That night however he was taken worse, complaining of severe pains in one of his feet and they became so bad that it was necessary to call a Dr. who pronounced it a stoppage of blood in the leg. Other complications setting in he gradually grew worse until death came to his relief Monday night at 10 p. m. Verily a good man has gone to his reward.
