Loren Wenthold, age 66, of rural Decorah, IA, died on Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at his home.
Visitation will be from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m., on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at the Schluter Balik Funeral Home 604 South Avenue, Decorah.
There will be no formal services.
Loren Linus Wenthold was born on March 9,1951 the son of Hubert and Angeline (Croatt) Wenthold. He and his sister Luann were the first set of twins born at Smith Memorial Hospital in Decorah. Loren went to St. Benedicts grade school then attended De Sales High School where he was part of the last graduating class in 1969. He was crowned Homecoming King that year and was also captain of the conference champion basketball team. After graduating he farmed with his dad on the family farm. Loren met Bonnie Rothmeyer in school and married on August 11, 1973 at Our Lady of Seven Dolors in Festina, IA. He and Bonnie continued to farm after they were married. Together they had four children: Aaron, Chris, Craig and Cass. Loren enjoyed bowling and playing softball with his friends for Stoskopf Oil/Hovden Oil wearing his favorite number 7 Jersey. He loved to farm the land with his John Deere equipment. Loren was an avid sports fan and enjoyed going to his sons’ sporting events and taking them to professional baseball games. He was a fan of the New York Yankees and the Iowa Hawkeyes. Loren loved his Blue 10 dump truck, his Chevelle and driving around in them. He enjoyed spending time with friends and loved the time he spent with his grandchildren.
Loren is survived by his wife: Bonnie, Decorah, IA. Four sons: Aaron (Sarah) Wenthold, Edina, MN; Chris (Becky) Wenthold, Minneapolis, MN; Craig (Tina) Wenthold, St. Cloud, FL; Cass (friend, Toni Kurtz), Decorah, IA.
Loren was preceded in death by his parents: Hubert and Angeline (Croatt) Wenthold.
