Mrs. Gina Doerr, former teacher, dies at age 84
Gina Doerr, a Decorah housewife and former teacher, died Thursday, Dec. 4 at the Aase Haugen Home at the age of 84.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 6 at 1 p.m. at First Lutheran Church. Pastor Paul Christenson conducted the service and organist William Kuhlman accompanied the congregation in hymns.
Burial was at Phelps Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Louie Beer, Donald Einck, Reginald Moellers, Keith Rosendahl, Brian Rosendahl, David Hjelmeland, Lyle Nali and Norman Zimmerman. Olson-Fjelstul Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Doerr was born Gina Espeseth on March 26, 1896 in Ridgeway to Claus and Gunhlld (Wemark) Espeseth. She graduated from Valder’s Business School and also attended Upper Iowa University of Fayette. She was married in February, 1919 to John Doerr. Mrs. Doerr taught school in Winneshiek County and Flandreau, S.D.
She is survived by two children: Dorisgene (Mrs. Lloyd Winger) of Decorah and Arlawayne (Mrs. Virgil Rosendahl) of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and one sister, Amelia Hjelmeland of Decorah.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
