Calvin Martens held in Cedar Rapids
Calvin L. Martens, 55, Cedar Rapids resident for 30 years and formerly of Waukon, died Saturday, Dec. 6 at a Cedar Rapids hospital following a long illness.
Born May 1,1925, at Postville, he was married to the former Aria Bernice Smorstad on Oct. 15, 1945, at Waukon. He was employed at Wilson and Company for 22 years until retiring in 1976. He was a charter member of Hope Lutheran Church and a member of Local 3 at Wilson and Co. He served In the Navy during World War II.
Surviving in addition to his wife are one son, Wesley C. of Cedar Rapids; two daughters, Cheryl Taube of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Carolyn Hageman of Henry, Ill.; five sisters, Ruth Klein, Eileen Klein and Shirley Marsden, all of Cedar Rapids; Mildred Krousie of Monona and Marion Thornton of Postville; two brothers, Harlin of Harpers Ferry and Milton of Cedar Rapids; and two grandchildren.
Services were Tuesday, Dec. 9 at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories by Dr. David H. Young of Hope Lutheran Church. Burial was at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery and military rites were by Hanford Post No. 5 of the American Legion.
