Emma Flaskerud funeral services held in Calmar

CALMAR (Special): Emma O. Flaskerud of Calmar died Friday, Dec. 19 at the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah. She was 93.

Funeral services were held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Calmar Lutheran Church. The Rev. George Bauman conducted the service and organist William Bravener accompanied the soloist, David Hillesland.

Burrial was at the Calmar Lutheran Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Elmer Neste, Prlando Albertson, Paul Kittlesby, Ahlert Flaskerud, Roger Flaskerud and Elvin Wangsness. French Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Emma was born on Jan. 3, 1887 in Calmar to Andrew O. and Eli (Wangsness) Flaskerud. She attended the public schools and the Lutheran parochial school, graduating from Calmar High School in 1905. During the next 18 years, she remained at home assisting her mother. Emma studied voice under Miss Emma Olson and took an active part in church and community music while in Calmar. She also was a member of the Calmar Music Club. In 1913, she moved to Portland, Ore., where she was employed at the Underhill Shirt Shop, as a seamstress of custom design shirts. After she retired in 1969, she returned to Calmar where she lived until she entered the Aase Haugen Home in 1972.

Survivors are two sisters, Esther Flaskerud and Agnes Flaskerud of Calmar; also 13 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her five brothers and one sister, John, Ole, Elif, Walter and Henry Flaskerud and Mrs. Clara Kittlesby.
