Rites Held For Mrs. Henry Jahnke

Funeral services were held on last Thursday afternoon at Zion Lutheran church in Castalia for Mrs. Henry Jahnke, 53, who passed away last Monday in a New Hampton hospital. The Rev. Conrad J. Rebelein officiated at the service and interment was in Centennial cemetery. Pallbearers were Arno Timmerman, Ray Birdsell, Holver Myron, Harry Lenth and Helmuth Schutte.

Mrs. Jahnke was born as Gladys Rosella Young on September 11, 1889, at Ottumwa, Iowa, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alonzo Young. She came to this community at the age of thirteen years and on July 26, 1906, she was married to Henry Jahnke of Ossian, and since then the family has always made their home in the Winneshiek county community.

In addition to the husband, six daughters and two sons survive. They are, Lucille (Mrs. Clarence Luebka), Dorothy (Mrs. Otto Schweinefus) of Castalia; Florence (Mrs. Carl Nesteby) of Dubuque; Inez (Mrs. Henry Schutte) of Luana; Pearl (Mrs. Elmer Hanneman) of Ossian; Gladys Mae at home; Lester Jahnke of Postville, and Walter at home. Two children passed away in infancy. She is also survived by a brother, Jim Young of Decorah, a sister, Mrs. Joe Ruby of Primghar, and 19 grandchildren.

Relatives coming for the funeral from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Joe Ruby of Primghar, James Young of Decorah, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Nesteby of Dubuque, Mrs. Mary Bruns, Christ Ihde and Ernest Kluthe, all of Monona.
