Norma Jean Ernst, 88, of Ossian, Iowa died on Thursday, May 26, 2016 at Ossian Senior Hospice in Ossian, Iowa. Norma Jean was born to Frank Jr. and Florence (Wiltgen) Schroeder, July 17, 1928 on a farm near Ossian. Jean was baptized and confirmed at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Ossian. She graduated from Ossian High School in 1946.

Jean was united in marriage with Arthur Ernst in 1960. She worked as a waitress at Cook’s Café in Ossian for several years, also for Dr. Henry and helped her husband at the sale barn in South Dakota. Jean was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and Rosary Society. She enjoyed cooking, traveling and visiting with family and friends. Jean loved animals and had many pets.

Jean is survived by her brother; Gerald Schroeder of Bellevue; sister-in-law, Joanne Schroeder of Ossian; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Florence Schroeder; husband, Arthur Ernst in 1985; two brothers, Robert F. Schroeder in 1952 and Donald H. Schroeder in 1991; one sister-in-law, Janet Schroeder; and two nephews, Dave and Glen Daniels.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am on Monday, May 30, 2016 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Ossian, Iowa with Rev. Robert Gross as the Celebrant. There will be a visitation from 9:30 to 11:00 am before the Mass at the church on Monday.

Burial will follow at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Cemetery, Ossian, Iowa.
