To Read Final Rites For J. H. Giesing At Calmar, Friday
CALMAR (Special) – Funeral services for Joseph Henry Giesing, 73, will be held Friday morning, Aug. 24, at 9 o’clock in the St. Aloysius Church with burial in St. Aloysius Cemetery. The Rev. J. George Schultz will officiate.
The remains were at the French Funeral Home Tuesday and Wednesday where the rosary was said each evening. On Thursday, the remains were taken to his home where the rosary will be said at 8 p. m. Mr. Giesing died Monday, Aug. 20, from complications at St. Joseph’s Sanitarium in Dubuque where he was taken on the previous day for treatment. He was in failing health since July 1.
The pallbearers will be Gus Klisart, Joseph T. Giesing, Leo Giesing, Joe Holthaus, Parnell Hageman and Conrad Huber. Honorary pallbeares{sp} will be: Dr. F. A. Hennessy, E. J. Hackett, A. N. Huber, Mike Herold( Adrian Smith, Fred Houdek, Gerald Becker, Theo, Timp, Ward Cook, Dr. J. D. Dillon and Willis Schlitter.
The deceased was born on a farm southwest of Calmar January 26, 1883, the son of Henry and Magdaline Klisart Giesing He received his education at St. Mary’s Parochial School in Festina. He was engaged in farming, first in South Dakota where he homesteaded and later near Festina and then west of Calmar. In 1940 he purchased a large farm near Waukon where he lived until 1954 when he retired to Calmar.
On June 6, 1947, he united in marriage with Dollie Essie Chavous at Columbia, S. C., and they resided in Waukon until their retirement.
Surviving are his wife and 10 children from a previous marriage: Mrs. Clinton (Irene) Frana, Calmar; Mrs. Wesley (Eunice) Henderson, Torrence, Calif.; Mrs. Aloysius (ladys){?} Wenthold, Cresco; Ival, Canton, Minn.; Ralph, Calmar; Mrs. Peter (Rita) Johnson, Anaheim, Calif.; Gertrude, Los Angeles, Calif.; Joseph, Waukon; Mrs. Richard (Magdaline) Levine, Torrence, Calif.; Betty, at home. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, three sisters and two brothers, Mrs. John Rader, New Hampton; Mrs. Amelia Hageman, Canton, Minn.; Mrs. Matt Pitzenberger, St. Petersburg, Fla.; John Giesing, Canton, Minn., and Frank Giesing, Harmony, Minn.
