Lansing Dies of Gunshot Wounds
Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 29, for Frederick William Lansing, Ossian, who died at the Decorah hospital January 23. Sheriff George Harms said the cause of death was a self-inflected gunshot wound.
Lansing had been a patient at the Decorah hospital since December 17, 1946, when he was in an auto accident. On the day of his death he left the hospital, against the orders of his doctor.
He was returned to the hospital the same day with a gunshot wound in his chest, and died shortly afterward.
Funeral services were held yesterday morning at 9:30 a. m. at St. Francis De Sales church, Ossian. Pallbearers were six cousins, Philip, Leo. Wilfred and Walter Lansing, Frank and John Broghammer. Officiating was Rt. Rev. Msgr. M. J. Thiltgen and burial was in St. Francis De Sales Cemetery.
Frederick William Lansing was born June 2, 1899, in Ossian, Iowa, the son of Herman and Anna Lansing. Both parents preceded him in death,
He was married June 6, 1921, to Monica Stortz, who survives. They have nine living childrden:{sp} Charles, Robert, Veronica, Fred Jr., Eleanor, Victoria, and Margaret, all of Ossian, and Madonna, Madison, Wis. Two children, Donald and Angeline, died in infancy.
Lansing is survived by the following brothers and sisters: Dona (Mrs. George Balk of Lawler), Glotiel (Mrs. Tom Beck, Chicago); Celia, Mason City; Mrs. Rose Watts, John and Albert, Mason City; Frank, New Hampton and Henry and Joe of Ossian.
Lansing was educated in St. Francis De Sales parochial school, Ossian.
He has been a farmer, on the Herman Lansing homestead farm.
NOTE: Since the auto accident happened in 1946, I assume the death occurred in 1947.
