A. Rosenbaum Dies Following An Operation

Andrew Rosenbaum, 85, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 1943, at St. Joseph’s hospital in New Hampton following an operation.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday morning at 9:30 at St. Mary’s church in Festina with burial in the adjoining cemetery. Rev. A. J. Rubly officiated. The pall bearers were Ben Elpert, William Schuler, John Lansing, William Massman, Frank Giesing, and Leo Giesing; cross bearer, Albert Bushman.

Mr. Rosenbaum was born in Mary’s Town, Wis., Jan. 20, 1858, the son of the late Simon and Catherine Rosenbaum. On Nov. 2, 1864, he came to Iowa with his parents, one sister and brother, making the trip with a team and wagon, and they settled on a farm one mile east of Festina where he lived until 1923 when he retired. In 1881 he united in marriage with Gertrude Zwiebahmer at Festina and they established their home on a farm.

They were the parents of nine children: Andrew S. Rosenbaum of Prairie du Chien, Wis.; John F. of Ossian, Louis F. of Calmar; Hugo C. of Lawler; Mrs. Fred W. Young of Gays Mills, Wis.; Catherine at home. Herman J. died Dec. 23, 1906 at Engerlin, N. D., in a railroad wreck; Fred W. died Dec. 15, 1918 at Brest, France from wounds received during World War I and Clem J. died in infancy. He is also survived by 23 grandchildren, three of whom are in service and 18 great grandchildren. Mr. Rosenbaum was a devout member of the Roman Catholic church.

Note: His wife's maiden name is normally spelled Zweibohmer.
