Decorah, Ia., - Special: Funeral services were held at 1 o’clock Tuesday afternoon at the Asse Haugen Home and at 3 o’clock at the Washington Prairie Lutheran Church for Gilbert Haugen, 75, who died at the Haugen Home Friday afternoon following a six moth illness.
The Rev. Otto E. Schmidt, manager of the home, officiated at the home services and the Rev. Paul Koren was in charge at the church services. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery.
He was born in Glenwood Township, Winneshiek County, on Oct. 5, 1862, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Endre Haugen, among the early pioneer of that township. He grew up on the home farm and 35 years ago he located in Decorah where he conducted a feed barn for many years.
He never married. Two brothers and one sister survive; Edwin, former Decorah grocer, now a resident of Southwestern Iowa; and Knut of Decorah, and Mrs. Louis Skow of Soldier.
